House of Blood
by Bryan Smith

An impromptu detour in the mountain country of east Tennessee leads a group of returning vacationers to a darkly enchanted realm that is both of our world and beyond it. An isolated house high in the mountains offers a false glimmer of hope for some of the wayward travelers. What awaits them here instead is a nightmare descent into torture, depravity, and death--and, for one young woman, a temptation to decadence perhaps too strong to resist. Beneath the house is a cavernous realm populated by slaves, overlords, and strange beasts. This is the place called Below, where the Master of the dark mountain domain banishes many of those who arrive at his doors. Those who aren't killed outright or drafted into the ranks of his sadistic Apprentices. The slaves of Below toil in squalor as part of the Master's work to serve and honor the death gods, the ancient entities that fuel his power. But in Below a revolution has been brewing. Aided by a rogue Apprentice, a mysterious figure known as Lazarus promises to lead the people of Below back to the surface. And as the latest arrivals at the House of Blood struggle to survive through the longest night of their lives, the moment the revolutionaries have waited for so long is almost at hand. And soon this remote backwoods realm will explode in a nightmarish bloodbath of violence and death.

BLURBS:
"House of Blood is a page-turning thrill ride of terror!"
—Douglas Clegg

"House of Blood is fast, sick, and loads of fun."
—Jeff Strand

"I couldn't put House of Blood down! It's a smooth, fast read, with an unpredictable plot, well-drawn characters, and a sinister, inventive setting. I can't wait for Bryan Smith's next one!"
—Tim Waggoner, Author of Like Death

"This novel, a topsy-turvy ride into sickness and atrocity, is good, nasty fun. What begins with the horror movie clichés of troubled young people getting lost (this time in Tennessee mountains) and a man running away from monsters later unfolds into a tale of struggle for precious life and sanity, all with cosmic repercussions. Layers of the mundane are peeled away dropping us into a horrific underworld, and by the time we reach the end of the story, it's fascinating to realize that what could have been just another genre novel became so much more. The main characters are well drawn and their escalating problems keep us interested in their fates throughout their trials until the bloody climax. To reveal more of the story here would spoil the joy of discovery, so let's just say you should be ready for anything and rule out nothing. There's not only titillation and chills within these pages, there's also a bit of awe."
Horror World

"Smith has created a tale packed with believable characters...(and) spikes his mass-market debut with a few choice twists, turns, and ideas, and shows how a standard tale can be stretched to make something truly unique...hence, this is the work only a true horror fan could pull off."
Horror Fiction Review

"Smith...is simply an amazing writer, with a gift for character insight that makes the people of House of Blood seem so real you feel like you know them by book's end. His prose is flowing, with a style that indicates intelligence about and empathy for the characters he has created...Smith's skills as a writer take you deep inside a tale of centuries old evil unlike any I had read before."
—The Horror Channel

"In his debut novel, Smith promises unimaginable brutality, bile-inducing fear, and unfathomable despair—and then delivers monumentally!"
Horror-Web.com

"A wild ride at times.everything nonetheless eventually fits together like a good jigsaw puzzle, and the novel comes to a rousing end."
Cemetery Dance

"In the vein of Bentley Little and Edward Lee, Bryan Smith takes you down previously traveled roads as seen in standard horror movies like Wrong Turn and Jeepers Creepers, and then diverts you onto strangely unfamiliar paths, leaving you no choice but to turn the pages well into the night. Sometimes scary, sometimes amusing, House Of Blood is a quick, enjoyable read."
—Michael Laimo, Author of The Demonologist and Deep In The Darkness

"House of Blood is a unique and riveting excursion into modern horror. Here's an author exploding onto the genre."
—Edward Lee, author of House Infernal
