After nearly a decade of skewering politicians, corporations, organized religion, publishers, peers, enemies, friends, and often himself, Brian Keene’s extremely popular ‘Hail Saten’ finally came to an end in 2008. For almost ten years, Keene’s essays were a must-read for both fans and pros. Unfortunately, in a post 9/11 world, they also became a must read for the U. S. Government.

Spanning 2006 to 2008, Leader of the Banned: The Best of Hail Saten, Volume 4 collects the legendary final Hail Saten essays, covering torture porn, writing collaborations, the history of the horror genre, the future of the small press, the media, pop culture, the 2008 presidential race, the Stephen King phenomenon, and more. It also includes the incendiary “If I Were President”—the fateful entry that landed Keene on the government’s watch list. As an added bonus, it also includes many never-before-published essays, as well as material Keene wrote under a pseudonym that was previously unknown to the public—until now.

Thunderstorm Books is proud to announce The Mother by Brett McBean.  This will the second book in our Black Voltage line.  This is the uncut version with two graphic scenes deemed too extreme restored back into the text.  The book features cover art by Alan Clark; Motherly Perspectives (intros from Kelli Dunlap, Mandy Hartley, Wendy Howarth, and Karen McBean); an afterword regarding the restored text by Brett McBean; and an afterword from Robert Hood.  This will be extremely limited at only 125 signed hardcover copies.

As the many customers already know, currently Thunderstorm Books has three different lines of books, each with their own specific attributes.  Descriptions of these lines can be found by clicking on the “Books” tab at the top of the home page.  The majority (75%+) of Elementals (priced at around $13) and very high majority (90%+) of White Lightning (priced at around $17) will be seeing the softcover treatment.   However, the Black Voltage line will primarily remain a hardcover-only line.  Occasionally, a softcover may come out.  To avoid confusion, these softcover books will be called MonsterBacks (priced at around $20).  These will be huge and oversized!  The Mother will be available as a MonsterBack title with a very short print run.

Deena Warner kicked off a very well received artist Remarque option with House of Blood.  There are two changes to this optional program that will streamline the process and make it even more successful.

First,  the remarque page will only be bound into the book when the customer buys a remarque.  This is slightly different than House of Blood which every copy had an artist page tipped in, some were just signed, some were signed and remarqued.  So going forward, for those who opt in for a remarque, they get an entire extra page tipped in.  For those who opt out, the page will not be included.

Second, since this is an optional program and 100% of the proceeds go directly to the artist, prepayment will now be required.  (Prepayment is for the Remarque only, payment for the book is not required until the book is ready to ship.)  Prepayments for the remarques are non-refundable.

Author Nate Southard and publisher Thunderstorm Books are marking the announcement of the new Southard collection Broken Skin with an exciting contest.  Those pre-ordering this signed, limited edition hardcover will have the chance to win a starring role in a short story that will appear in their copy of the book.

HOUSE OF BLOOD

Several things to announce that will knock your socks off.

Changes: The print run for this title has now been reduced to only 195 copies, so if you haven’t reserved your copy yet, do so soon.

Current status: the initial interior designs have been completed. For those who want your names to be included on the Welcome Home page, you must request this free option by 7/10/08.  For more information on what the Welcome Home page is please contact me at info@thunderstormbooks.com or check out the thread on the thunderstorm message board at horrorworld.org.  One other reminder, the option for a Remarque by Deena Warner is available and highly recommended for all you hardcore collectors.

Contest: Bryan Smith and I have come up with some cool contests for you horror fanatics.

ELEMENTAL BOOK 1

Changes: No changes to announce, given that this secret project is still a secret.  However, the hardcover is going to be super-rare and limited only to the number of current elemental members. As of today, the hardcover is sold out, but you can email me at info@thunderstormbooks.com with “waiting list” in the subject if you are still interested in the getting the hardcover version of book 1. I am going to leave the membership option open for those who still want to sign up for this series(beginning with book 2 obviously).

Current status: The announcement of book 1 will be made very soon. Trust me, this book will become very highly sought after in the near future. Even the paperback will be rarer than you think.


TALES OF SIN AND MADNESS / WHITE LIGHTNING SERIES #1

Changes: There are some significant changes that will be occurring with this line. First and foremost, rather than having one huge hardcover print run, this title (as well as future titles in this series) will be broken up into a much smaller and much more collectible hardcover print run and also a small paperback run (published at a later time). The signed limited hardcover’s print run will be established by the number of pre-orders only. Given this change, in lieu of a bonded leather sewn binding will be replaced with the more typical adhesive cloth combination. In addition, a full color dustjacket will be included. Although the decision to change this line was difficult, it was also necessary.  In the end, these changes will benefit both the collector and the general reader.

Current status:  Pursuing cover art. The hardcover will remain priced at the very economical $30 and preorders will be taken until 30 days after the final cover art is posted.

Contests will be announced at a later date.

Overall, all these changes to the three lines of thunderstorm books will benefit the collector.  TSB aims to be the collector’s number one choice in small press products.
